Our 2006 Dogs and Dating Contest Winner:

George Stalf and Winnona, Milwaukee, WI

WinnonaSeven years ago, my dog Winona and I moved across the country to Seattle. A couple of days after we arrived, I was walking her and she started dragging me toward a car. At first, I didn't see anyone. Then I noticed a puppy and a girl who caught my eye. She told me that she and her puppy had just traveled across the country to move to Seattle also. From that day on, we spent all our time together. At first, Winona was jealous and did things to torment her. One night she threw up into Cheryl's purse. Another time it was her shoes. Cheryl and I became inseparable, and so did Winona and Cheryl's dog. Today, we are married, have a baby and we are all one big happy family.

2006 Finalists

I had always wanted a dog. My boyfriend came home one day with the cutest Lhasa Apso. Attached to the puppy's collar was a note that read, "Will you marry me?" Of course I said yes. Without the dog, he probably wouldn't have had enough courage to propose without our little Zoey.

Zoey- T. Sohrweid, Nebraska

Sarge has always been friendly with people. He is playful and full of energy, like most Boxers. One evening, I had some people over to my place. Sarge started growling at the guy I was seeing. He followed the guy around and growled at him the entire time. I apologized to the guy several times, as I had a huge crush on him. Sarge made him pretty uncomfortable and the guy never asked me out again. A month later he started dating a co-worker and wound up cheating on her!

Shortly after my husband and I got married, we went to a drive-in together. He was not a dog person at the time but agreed to bring along Sho Sho, my mini Dachshund. That night, he stood in the rain holding an umbrella over her so she could go to the bathroom. After that, she was his little girl.

- P. Beachler, Warren OH

When I was single, my dog Chops hated almost every guy I brought home. When I went out on a date Chops would dig in the trash, chew up the couch, dig the dirt out of my plants. When I met my last boyfriend, we went out on a great date together. I was so fearful of what we would find upon our return. But there was Chops, happily lazing around on the couch. My place was spotless. He actually let my date sit on the couch and got in his lap. I figured this guy must be a keeper and married him. That was over 10 years ago. Chops has since passed on, but I still have my husband that he picked out for me.

- M. Stocker, Evansville, IN

My dog helped me get a date with the UPS man! The guy admired my dog, Zeus, and we started talking. We ended up going out!

S. Torres, Texas

I was at the park with my small terrier mix, when this little dog came up to me. I didn't see an owner, so I bent down, and he let me pet him. This dog grabbed my dog's bandanna as if to walk her. As I allowed this dog to walk MY dog, I found his owner, the guy I married a year later. So, I have Mike, and my dog has Scrappy

Scrappy - D. Mitchell, White Pine, TN
