Toy Manchester Terrier
The Toy Manchester Terrier, originally known as Toy Black and Tan terrier, originated in Great Britain in the 1500's. It is now known in Great Britain as the English Toy Terrier. Bred and used mainly as a ratter, it also was used for rabbiting, it was refined over several hundred years. Evidence of Whippet is can be seen in the elegant roach back, and the in the relatively straight shape of the nose. Note: In the USA, the Toy Manchester Terrier and the Manchester Terrier (Standard) are considered two varieties of the same breed, the Manchester Terrier.
Height: The range is 10-12" but not to exceed 12" (30.5 cm).
Weight: USA and Canada:, the weight is not to exceed 12 lbs (5.5 kg). In the United Kingdom, the weight should be 6-8 lbs (2.5-3.5 kg).
Coat Type: The single layer coat is sleek, black and tan markings. It requires minimal grooming.
Temperament: The Toy Manchester Terrier is lively and attentive, true to the terrier personality. He thrives on human companionship, and so does better as a family dog with someone around, than as a kennel dog.
Special Interest: A great ratter, called Tiny the Wonder, killed 300 rats during a contest, in under 55 minutes.
